Martha Lohaus

My painting is an expression of my passion for color. The choice of each painting’s palette is key as I am continually fascinated by the juxtaposition of color, interaction of colors and the moods created.

The mediums I most enjoy are acrylic, oil and mixed media. My process involves building layers of color often with a palette knife or other implements for texture. Abstracting “scapes” is a primary theme whether it be land, sea, sky, night or city. The scapes are meant to create a sense of place and intentionally are tranquil, away from chaos. In contrast, my purely abstract paintings tend to portray movement and vitality. My goal is to evoke moods through color and explore the world of abstract scapes.
