Painting and drawing invite me to "SEE" and sense my world.  I'm invited into a conversation.

People are a favorite subject of mine, particularly catching them in special moments when their eyes hold a bit of mischief, fear, alone/loneliness, boldness or joy; when they are uniquely themselves.  While I try and capture their image, it's also fun to catch the universality in their expressions and activities.

Fortunate enough to travel, I use my camera to zero in on special sights, oddities, details.  I'm less likely to paint the scenery, but instead focus on a corner of a market, tile rooftop patterns, Laotian school girls with sun umbrellas…  Sailboats often figure into my paintings.

I like to play with paints often using bold, bright, hot colors.  When my watercolors would not drip like acrylics, I tried several paintings using drinking straws to blow the watercolor paint across the paper to create exciting, out of control, giggle-producing paintings.

In workshops and classes the invitation is always there to stretch and learn and grow.   I'm currently exploring light and shadows, glazing and plein air painting.
