Shelley Von Hagen-Jamar

I paint to capture the beauty of the world as I see it, especially the beauty that others might miss: the old woman’s face as she stares into the distance, the little girl who is alone on the beach playing intently by herself, the expression on my son’s face when he is about to say something wry and mischievous. I love the way light changes the colors of the lake, and I get excited by the dainty lift of the hummingbird at the feeder.  Thus, my painting is motivated by desire and love. I strive to be realistic while also allowing the spirit of the scene, the feeling sense, and the mood to emerge.
